by Rachel Howe

Puppy Mills are known for their harsh treatment of animals. Check out a few quick reasons why getting a pet from your local humane society or animal shelter is a good route to go:

1. Puppy mills are often unregulated and overcrowded with so many animals that the conditions are usually unsanitary. The LESS people buy from puppy mills, the QUICKER we can get rid of this problem.

2. $$ SAVE MONEY $$- Puppy mill owners rarely pay attention to the health of the animals, and therefore, they easily suffer from a variety of health issues which cause people to take their pet back to the pet shop, or end up paying for their dog’s health issues later on. Most shelter dogs are given their shots, and often low-cost dog id tags and the small fee you pay is cheaper than paying for most puppy mill dogs.

3. Unlicensed puppy mills often sell puppies before they are eight weeks old, which is a violation of federal law.

4. Getting a shelter dog saves them from potentially being put down. So, not only will you save money, you will be putting the dog in a good home. Shelter dogs are great option for your next pet. The more people know about the facts on puppy mills, the more that can be done to stop puppy mills from continuing.
