Shelter Dog Gets Extreme Makeover

Humane societies do a miraculous job of saving as many animals as possible, despite a serious over-population problem. They care for these animals and do whatever they can to help get dogs and cats adopted.

Members of the Dog Tag Art staff were recently able to witness a “miracle makeover” at the Asheville Humane Society’s shelter in Asheville, North Carolina. A one-year old female shih tzu named Gabby was surrendered to the shelter. She was in terrible condition – her coat was so matted that the hair on her front legs had actually grown in and she was barely able to walk.

If animals are mistreated by their owners, they can't just leave home like a human and beg on the street for free stuff and money.  Their rescue and recovery totally depends on the kindness of humans and animal charities.

A volunteer mobile groomer took this little matted mass and turned her into the beauty that she deserved to be. Dog Tag Art was there to see the transformation and we made a video of the process so we could share it with visitors to our website. The Before and After is pretty stunning!

Of course, as soon as Gabby’s groom was completed, we put an “Adopt Me” tag on her. There is a happy ending to this “Happy Tail” – Gabby was adopted only a week after being turned in, and we know her looking good had a lot to do with it. Dog Tag Art will be giving the new owner one of our tags as a thank you for adopting Gabby.

Dog Tag Art is a committed supporter of adopting pets from shelters. Our pet ID tags are sold through Asheville Humane Society (Asheville, NC) and Humane Society of Silicon Valley (Milpitas, CA) to help raise funds for these worthy organizations.

We urge you to consider adopting a dog or a cat from your local shelter. Then be sure to keep your new pet safe with one of our cool, personalized pet ID tags!
